❤️ The Science of Happiness (in Relationships) | The Dateable Dish

March 07, 2025

Hey Dateables,

Hope everyone is having a great start to March! How are we already almost in Spring? We're here for it though!

We've been resting & rejuvinating after the first leg of our West Coast book tour. A big thanks to all of you who came out throughout it! And for any of you that missed us, we'll hopefully see you again soon at some events that are in the works in San Francisco in April & LA (Santa Monica) in May. We're also planning a NYC trip, so NY Dateables, let us know if there's somewhere we should book an event at!

We wanted to shout out a new community member, Guadalupe who shared in our facebook group:

"I have the book! And the audible as well. Love love love it! I'd given up... this has given me hope."

THIS is exactly why we wrote our book. Today's dating culture is so toxic and we want to bring back the hope! Because we truly believe each and every one of you is already Dateable and can have a fulfulling love life that you so desire! It's 100% attainable, we just need to approach dating differently (which our friends, is what we poured our heart and soul into writing the last couple of years based on 10 years of doing the Dateable podcast).

☀️

This Is What You Need To Hear Right Now: The magic is in the middle

Hopefully you got to listen to the incredible episode that was dropped this week with Dr. Laurie Santos (but if not, time to catch up this weekend!)

There's a part about the arrival fallacy (or the happily ever after myth). That once you reach whatever said goal or mileston you have, then you'll be happy.

But as Laurie points out, this isn't the way to true happiness.

Julie was asked to do a lightening talk at Neon in San Francisco (where we had one of our book launch events) so decided to really hone in on this topic. Because as an Achiever, it's SO easy to get laser focused on that outcome that you forget all the learning and experiences that happened along the way (you can also catch this in a quickie episode that just dropped this morning)

But the truth is, so much happens in the middle. That's not to say it's easy: it can certainly be hard at times, messy, and emotionally challenging Especially when certain things, like love, aren't falling into place! But there's also so much good that happens between milestones - the life experiences, the friendships, even the heartbreak that leads to so much personal growth.

The reality too is that you're always in the middle – even when you hit those said milestones. Because there's always a moving target, a new goal post. It's about not just embracing the middle, but truly enjoying it. Becuase one day, you will look back at this time (even the hard parts) with fondness. We're learning to really savor each day and moment for what it is. Because life isn't just the milestones; it's what happens between them.

❤️ Forward to a friend that also needs to hear this as well.

📅  Meeing People IRL Spring is approaching so it's time to start getting out there! But meeting people in-real life isn't always easy – and can actually be fruitless and demotivating without a sustainable, energizing strategy. We are so excited to bring back our Meeting People IRL Masterclass with tactics we've both used to meet people we actually wanted to date IRL (and also seen work for thousands of daters in our community!) March is now Meeting IRL month and we're offering a special discount for Dateable listeners with the code DATEABLE.
